GEORGE F. NIXON, JR.
George F. Nixon, Jr., better known
as "Bud," was born and raised in Baltimore.
With a deep commitment to Baltimore and the
Canton area, Bud has worked hard with the City
of Baltimore to promote the maritime industry
and to keep it alive in the southeast port area.
In 2002, Bud retired as President
of Rukert Terminals Corporation, which was founded
in 1921 by his grandfather. It is one of the
largest privately owned and operated Marine
Terminals in the area. The Terminal specializes
in Bulk and Break Bulk Materials and handles
approximately 1,500,000 tons of material per
year. Some of the materials it handles are salt,
fertilizer, ferro alloys, primary metals, general
cargo, and refractory materials. These items
impact the general economy and act as building
blocks for industrial and commercial finished
goods.
After 29 years of working at Rukert
Terminals Corporation, Bud is deeply involved
in the support and promotion of the Port of
Baltimore and the Maritime Industry. He actively
participates on many committees, including but
not limited to: Port of Baltimore Tricentennial
Committee, Private Sector Port Coalition, Canton
Industrial Association, and Master Dredge Plan
for the Baltimore Harbor.
Bud also serves his community
as President of the Lutherville Victorian Society
and House Tour Chairman, as well as his Church
as a vestryman, adult education teacher, and
a member of the Worship Committee. In addition
to his volunteer work, Bud's hobbies include
sports cars, vintage aircraft, and the history
of the Civil War and World War II.
Bud attended the University of
Baltimore and graduated in 1964 with a B.S.
degree in Business Management. Bud and his wife
currently reside in Baltimore County.
